Bears v. Broncos
Cathy thought it would be a good idea to see
Peyton Manning before he retires. Of course, the boys and I agreed. So we set
our sights on 22 November 2015, when the Broncos would visit Chicago. I waited
until the last possible minute—until the boys couldnÕt stand it—to
buy tickets, on the grounds that, hey, Peyton might get injured and not play in
Chicago. The day after I bought our tickets, it was announced that Peyton was injured
and wouldnÕt play in Chicago. We consoled ourselves by noting that weÕd at
least get to see Peyton on the sidelines. The next day, the Broncos announced
that Peyton would not be traveling with the team; heÕd stay back in Denver
working on his recovery. And so. . . we got to see Brock OsweilerÕs first NFL
start! Not the script we would have written, but it was still an immensely fun
weekend for all five of us, in which we missed Peyton, but got to see this yearÕs
Super Bowl champions.
