Boreal Owl in the U.P.
Aegolius funereus
This secretive little owl is probably here, on
passage, each year (itÕs banded nearly every year at Whitefish Point). But still, itÕs rarely seen by
birders; in my opinion, itÕs the toughest to see of the regularly occurring
birds of the North. Wait for a major irruption year, like 2006, and then follow
the postings on the U.P. birdnet listserve.

photos IÕve made of Boreal Owl.
