Iceland (KumleinÕs) Gull
Larus glaucoides kumleini
Iceland
Gulls can be found in small numbers in Marquette from October through early
April. First cycle birds are most common; during their peak numbers IÕd
estimate that a diligent birder can find one first cycle Iceland Gull for every
thousand Herring Gulls. Adult Iceland Gulls are less common, but theyÕre
around; IÕd estimate their frequency in Marquette (again, during their peak
numbers) at one for every three first cycle Iceland Gull. Second cycle Iceland
Gulls occur in Marquette at the same frequency as adult Iceland Gulls, in my
experience. Third cycle Iceland Gulls are rarer still; you can go years without
seeing one in Marquette.
