Le Conte's Sparrow

Ammodramus leconteii

 

 

These are not good photos, but this is a hard-to-find species in central Indiana. It's an even harder species to photograph. If nothing else, these photos give a sense of what this species actually looks like in the field—furtive, shy, low-to-the-ground, in dense grass, rarely visible for more than a moment or two.
