very large snake.
Another view, Palo
Duro Canyon State Park, Randall County, Texas, 15 August 2015. It might not be
apparent from this photo, but this was an intimidating encounter with a very
large rattlesnake. Jack and I were walking down the middle of a small stream.
Very narrow, the banks on each side were just an armÕs length away; lots of
tall grass, making it hard to see anything. In fact, we didnÕt see this snake
at all until we were practically on top of it—we first heard the rattle,
then saw the snake in the grass. We were close enough that it might have caused
some trouble had it decided to strike. We froze, then slowly backed away. Yikes!
Another view, crummy shot, in
my headlights, Portal, Arizona, 28 July 2008. Here is another view of this
snake.
