Testing in MA-331

There will be quizzes, some unannounced, and there will be some collected homework. There will also be three unit tests, one at the end of each of the three Units, and a comprehensive final exam. There will be opportunities for extra credit (EC) throughout the semester.

Questions on the exams are like problems assigned from the text or problems considered in class. There will also be questions that ask you to state axioms or definitions in detail. These cannot be paraphrases or "in my own words" statements. They do not have to be stated verbatim but they have to say exactly the same thing as the verbatim statement. You will also be asked to prove theorems on the test that you have proved for homework (or Moise or I have proved.) Proofs of the theorems are not to be memorized "blindly" but must be understood in such a way that you can give the proof yourself when asked. Sometimes you will asked for a proof in detail; other times, you will be asked for a sketch proof. What these mean will become clear from the things we do in class.

Tests from W,06

Included here copies of the three unit tests from the last class I taught in the W,06 semester. They are meant to illustrate the kind of questions that might be asked and what you might be expected to do.

Unit 1 Test: Test 1 W07         Unit 2 Test: Test 2 W07         Unit 3 Test: Test 3 W07
