12th Upper Peninsula High School Math Challenge

The 12th Upper Peninsula High School Math Challenge was held from 10:00AM to 3:00PM EST on Saturday April 11, 2026 in Jamrich Hall at Northern Michigan University.
The contest was attended by 20 students on 5 teams representing the following (3) schools:
Gwinn High School, Marquette County, Michigan
Houghton Central High School, Houghton County, Michigan
Negaunee High School, Marquette County, Michigan
Round 1 consisted of (10) individual problems. Each team earned (1) point per correct problem per team member. A team could earn a maximum of (40) points in this round. Here are the problems and solutions.
Round 2 consisted of (5) team problems. Each team earned (4) points per correct answer. A team could earn a maximum of (20) points in this round. Here are the problems and solutions.
Round 3 consisted of (3) twelve-minute math relays of four problems each. Teams were awarded (4) points for solving all four problems during the time frame of (0-3min), (3) points for the time frame of (3-6min), (2) points for (6-9min), and (1) point for (9-12min). Bonus points of (+3),(+2),(+1) were given to the first, second, and third place team in each relay, respectively. A team could earn a maximum of (21) points in this round. Congratulations to all the contestants, and to all the NMU Volunteers, it was a great day of mathematics, and WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT YEAR! The tentative date is set for Saturday April 10, 2027.
