American Black Bear

Ursus americanus

First view, Big Bend National Park, Texas, 1 June 2013.

Another view, subspecies: Cinnamon Bear, Swift Current/Many Glacier area, Glacier National Park, Montana, 24 June 2011; here is another shot of this bear.

Another view, in a driveway in Delta County, Michigan, west of Rapid River, 29 May 2017.

Here is a video I made of a bear snacking on the spoils after he wrecked my feeders, S. McClellan, Marquette County, Michigan, 6 August 2022.

Here is another video I made of a bear snacking on bird seed and suet, S. McClellan, Marquette County, Michigan, 2 August 2022.

Here is a video I made of another bear who turned my feeders into a snack bar, S. McClellan, Marquette County, Michigan, 15 October 2022.

Another view, my yard, S. McClellan, Marquette County, Michigan, 6 July 2021; I made this photo with my iPhone, in the middle of the night, through the window, with bad artificial light, while standing in my dining room, after this very large bear had knocked down my feeders (and was then dining casually on the spoils, as you can plainly see).

Another view, subspecies: Eastern Black Bear, Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge, North Carolina, 7 June 2011.

Another view, Langlade County, Wisconsin, 13 September 2015; crummy shot through windshield.

Here is a (crummy) trail-cam shot of a bear just as it’s knocking down my feeders, and here is this bear enjoying the seeds. The first photo shows the top of the standing bear’s head to reach about the same spot on the feeders as does the top of my own head (i.e., 6’1’’). These trail cam photos were made in our yard early on the morning of 23 August 2021. I was fast asleep, btw, but Evan watched it all and even managed a recording of the bear munching on the seeds (it was too dark for him make photos).
